A typical modern ammonia-producing plant first converts natural gas (i.e.,methane) or LPG (liquefied petroleumgases such as propane and butane) or petroleum naphtha into gaseous hydrogen. The method for producing hydrogen from hydrocarbons is known as steam reforming.
