breathing an oxygen deficient atmosphere can have serious and immediate effects, including unconsciousness after only one or two breaths.nitrogen accumulation in the body in form of urea and uric acid may have ill effects and may prove to be fatal.

however nitrogen is the building block of life,as it is the main constituent of proteins and all life is made up of proteins.

hence nitrogen if inhaled will not kill you,but purely nitrogenous atmosphere may prove fatal.accumulation of nitrogenous wastes in the body is also fatal.

but also we need nitrogen even for our basic sustenance and existence
