. Policy of non alignment gained importance during the Cold war era. The period after the second world war saw the rise of two power blocs- US and USSR and the emergence of Cold war between them which was an ideological warfare between the two, with both countries extending their influence by forming alliances. Thus, non alignemmt implied not aligning with any of these power blocs.
