Patriotism? What a foolish idea. Why? Why would you pledge your loyalty to a single country among many? What makes your country inherently better? Why are you superior to everyone else? Patriotism is a divisive concept, it promotes disunity among humanity. It is the idea that people are better than others due to the random chance of location of birth. It is indoctrinated into children throughout their education. They are taught that their country is the best, that their country is always right, that their country is always right. This is simply not true. All countries have committed atrocities. No matter how much we might wish they hadn’t, it is an undeniable fact, and to deny it is to disgrace the memory of the deceased and to foster the seeds of future conflicts. Patriotism teaches people that their country is the best, and, by extent, that they are the best people in the world, that everyone else is inherently inferior to them. Patriotism leads to division and disunity among people. It divides the world into factions, and people within various countries lose sight of what matters. They see themselves as members of countries, as British, Japanese, Turkish, American. They lose sight of the fact that we are all people. We are all a single species. As long as we see ourselves as members of countries, the world will never unite. And as long as the world doesn’t unite, large-scale conflict will continue. War and genocide won’t stop as long as the world is divided. Oppression, discrimination, and suffering will cannot be stopped until all humans realize that they are part of a single group, a single global community.

Patriotism or national pride is the feeling of love, devotion, and sense of attachment to a homeland and alliance with other citizens who share the same sentiment. This attachment can be a combination of many different feelings relating to one's own homeland, including ethnic, cultural, political or historical aspects.
