Here your answer

yes it is a major threat to environment because chlorinated plastic can release harmful chemicals into the surrounding soil which can then seep into ground water or other surrounding water source this can cause harm to the species that drink water

Plastics are threat to the environment because Plastic is a non- biodegradable material.

The substances which cannot broken down into simpler substances by bacteria or other micro-organisms in a reasonable amount of time are referred to as Non-biodegradable.

Plastic is most durable and resistant to decomposition  by micro organisms. When plastic is sent to landfills it is destined to remain for hundreds of thousands of years. This reduces the soil fertility and effects the water percolation in the soil. lakes, ponds and urban sewerage systems are getting choked by plastic bags. Burning of plastic releases so many harmful gases which cause air pollution.
