Plastics are degradable.

Like any other material or matter that we find on the surface of Earth  or that have been meet or produced by humans have a certain lifespan or have a certain time period in which they start degrading,Plastics also have certain lifespan and are able to  be decomposed but the only difference is plastics have a very  long lifespan.  Every material has a Half-Life that starts decomposing or becomes its half after a certain time which is known as half life the half life of plastic is  very long for the plastic to decompose completely it takes almost about 500  to 1000 years.

Having such a long life span makes plastic almost non degradable. The plastic once produced takes such a long time to get decomposed while the next lot of plastic production is on its way, the  useless or the waste plastic gets stacked up hence resulting in pollution because of lack of immediate decomposition.

Many plastics do not biodegrade to any significant degree, regardless of environmental conditions, while some do so very slowly if exposed to air, water and light – both types are best recycled or used for their stored energy. ... biodegradability of plastics depends largely on the type of plastic and where it ends up.
