Ever since I was small, stories have been apart of my life. Reading books like ‘The Tales of Peter Rabbit’ and ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’ before bed became a part of my natural order where I could escape into another world. To say the least, not much has changed and on most nights, I love to read - to find that escape away from reality.

YeS. No, I can only speak for Western literature, which is what I am most familiar with. People have had the same desire to communicate and demonstrate their abilities through story telling for probably as long as humans have existed.

The style of literature varies, but I wouldn't call books like Ovid's Metamorphosis "primitive." In fact, I would put it up against any modern horror author in terms of imagery and psychological terror. (Imagine being transformed into a cow while still knowing who you are, and then being forced to live as a cow under the lustful gaze of a monster who never sleeps but watches you 24 hours a day, seven days a week! Or being transformed into a stag who is unable to communicate as your own hunting party pursues you while being ripped apart by your own dogs!)
