so rectifier is used to convert Ac supply to dc supply and A rectifier is an electrical device composed of one or more diodes that converts alternating current (AC) to direct current (DC). A diode is like a one-way valve that allows an electrical current to flow in only one direction. This process is called rectification.

and hence we need to convert AC to DC because of below facts: AC signals can not be stored and DC power or signals can be stored. Thus,to store the electrical energy we need to convert it into DC. ... AC can be transported over long distances because of it's frequency and dc can not be transported as dc has zero frequency.
