Yes in democratic society it gives a voice to the will of the people. Representative democratic system of government is when all the eligible people of the country vote for their representative to pass some laws for them.

For example in United State of America people elect their president of their choice and majority wins after voting. In India we also choose our local and state officials by voting and all these elected people suppose to listen public voice and do what’s best for the public interest.
