Is respiration considered as a combustion reaction? After all the starting products are a hydrocarbon that reacts with oxygen to provide carbon dioxide and heat. I'll mark the best answer as the brainliest.

One combustion reaction that has been very important throughout history is the burning of coal. ... All of these hydrocarbons contain hydrogen and carbon and burn readily with oxygen in the atmosphere to produce water and carbon dioxide as they give off heat and light........

respiration is primarily an energy-yielding dissimilation process and a phenomenon exhibited by all living organisms.

respiration is an example of slow combustion. In respiration, glucose is oxidised and carbon dioxide and energy are released in the process. This is a very similar reaction to combustion.

Slow combustion is a form of combustion which takes place at low temperatures. Cellular respiration is an example of slow combustion.
