• Root cap is a multilayered structure which forms the end portion of the root.
• It is formed of many numbers of parenchymous cell that are spindle in shape.
• In a maize plant, about 4 thousand to 21 thousand cells are present in the root cap.
• The cells present in the root cap has a life span of 1 to 7 days in the maize plant.
• The mucilage of the root cap alongwith the along with the cells of the root border helps in growth of the root inside the soil.
• Root cap also plays a very vital or important role in determining the direction of growth of root. This is called gravitropism.
