Sodium chloride is considered as compound because it is made up of two different atoms which have similar composition ehereas salt on other side is a pure substance as it is made of a single kind of matter and its composition is same throughout
So sodium chloride is considered as compound as it is a mixture of two atoms but according to scientist substance is pure when the constituent particles of that substance is same throughout
