Answer:
i think i might get the question wrong but what u mean(i think) is that "is subsidiary alliance and doctrine of lapse more effective than some other ways of ruling territories without fighting".
i stated that so unformely is cause i am confused.D.O.L. AND SUBSIDIARY ALLIANCE ARE THE CUNNING WAYS
i mean subsidiary allinace and D.O.L. are the ways which lead to violence ibut they were enabled so that there is no fighting.
The british wanted to have as less violence as possible to control india,u may think otherwise but this is the reality no one wants to fight(they did cause they were greedy but thats another topic)
they enabled subsidiary allinace so as the other kingdoms join them(british empire)violence free
D.O.L. was more like a rule (when u have the power to rule to fight than whatever u say, other has to listen) so they made it and kingdoms were bound to follow them
they were so that british could annex india with as minimal fights as possible so these are those cunning ways of rulling territories.
i might have not undserstood ur question and this would have been a total garbage for u,i am sorry in that case
