  • Pollution in soil is associated with Indiscriminate use of fertilizers Indiscriminate use of pesticides, insecticides and herbicides
  • Dumping of large quantities of solid waste
  • Deforestation and soil erosionPlants on which we depend for food are under attack from insects, fungi, bacteria, viruses, rodents and other animals, and must compete with weeds for nutrients.

Composting is a process in which various micro-organisms, including bacteria and fungi, break down organic matter into simpler substances under controlled aerobic conditions (requires oxygen). It is nature's way of recycling. Organic waste, i.e. food waste, manure, leaves, grass trimmings, paper, wood, feathers, crop residue etc., are dumped in large pits called compost pit. After few days, these materials biodegrade and turn it into a valuable blackish soil like structure called compost.
