Is \frac{1}{i} the same thing as -i? (where i is an imaginary number)

No it is not same thing because the iota is in fraction becomes positive when it goes on numerator side but -i remains still negative because - sign is in inside the root so we can't make it positive.

 \frac{1}{i}  =  \frac{1}{  \sqrt{ - ?} }  =  \sqrt{ + }

and \:  - i =   - \sqrt{ - }
