Appendix is a vestigial organ due to the following reasons:

Explanation:

  • A vestigial organ can be described as an organ that has no function to perform in an organisms body. However, it is thought that it might have a role to play in the organisms ancestral species.

  • The appendix in humans has no main purpose to perform and its removal causes no harm to the human body.

  • However, it is thought that in the past, the appendix had various functions to perform in the ancestral species such as the digestion of leaves.

The appendix doesn't appear to do anything except cause trouble, why can some people wiggle their ears and why do we have to go through the pain of wisdom teeth!? These 'useless' body-parts, otherwise known as vestigial organs, are remnants of lost functions that our ancestors possessed.
