• The horizon of the sea appears to be slightly above the observer which proves the circular shape of the earth

The earth is roughly a sphere and is a form of elliptical shape.

Explanation:

• The earth has maximum bulge along the equator and less at the poles this makes the earth in a round shape which considered from a global perspective is like a sphere as it rotates on its axis and revolves around the sun like a celestial body.  

• As the earth is supposed to have originated from the same material as did other planets, in the milky way that is a spiral galaxy the formation of planetesimals were in the form disks of rotating gas clouds.

• Large parts of the earth were destroyed by the crashing of the moon into space and that created a deep depressions which later on got filed by water and formed large bodies of oceans.

• Another reason is that is the earth has gravity and that earth has 5.5g/cm density which is high enough to make the planet in a spherical shape.
