Answer:

LET THE AGE OF ONE FRIEND BE=x

THE AGE OF OTHER FRIEND BE=y

SUM OF THEIR AGES= i.e. x+y=20--------(1)

FOUR YEARS AGO--

AGE OF FRIEND =x-4

AGE OF OTHER FRIEND=y-4

ATQ,

(x-4)(y-4)=48---------(2)

From. (1) y=20-x

PUTTING y=20-x in eqn. (2)

(x-4)(20-x-4)=48

(x-4)(16-x)=48

x(16-x)-4(16-x)=48

Not possible.
