The functional group of ketone is detected by the presence of an O atom that shares two pairs of electrons with a carbon atom. (see attachment) It is not a terminal functional group. Instead, it can be placed only between the first and last carbon in a compound. Its naming is done by placing 'one' at the end of the name of the compound after removal of 'e' at the end of the compound.
