No, it can not be rightly said that the idea of democracy is shrinking. Democracy is the dominant form of government in the world.
Though the democracy was adopted by most countries of the world but there are some issues with implementation of democracy and democratic principles in almost all the countries. We see under the garb of national security, freedom of speech and expression is being curtailed. Democratic institutions are being targeted by the present regimes.
Democracy can be reformed by :
Firstly democratic principles should be implemented thoroughly.
Democratic practices should be strengthened.
Freedom of speech and expression should not be curtailed under the garb of national security.
The government and institutions adopting undemocratic methods should be thrown out.
People and minorities should be included in decision making.
Corrupt politicians should be jailed.
