It is the largest gland in our body. The weight of our liver is about 1.5 kg or \sf\dfrac{1}{40} weight of the body. It has two lobes, they are larger right lobe and smaller left lobe. It is soft and reddish brown in colour.

  1. It is responsible for storing Iron in the form of ferritin.

  • It secretes bile juice which works on emulsification of fats.

  • It also stores vitamins such as Vitamins – A, D and E.

  • It stores glycogen in our body.

  • It decomposes haemoglobin from broken down red blood cells.

  • It removes amino group from surplus amino acids.

  • It synthesis of blood or fibrinogen and plasma proteins.
