Is the line y=3x-7 parallel or perpendicular to 3x+9y=9?

Hi Mate!!

Two lines are // if their slopes are equal.

and

Two lines are perpendicular if product of their slopes = -1


Case 1 :-). //

Slope of ist line = 3

Slope of second line = -1/3

slopes are not equal so, the given two lines are not in //

Case 2:-) perpendicular.

Product of slopes = 3 ( -1/3) = -1

Product of two slopes is = -1 so, the given two lines are perpendicular to each other.


Slope of any line in the form of ax + by + c = 0

is -a/b
