In the story "Leaving" by Monil Patel, the narrator is Aloo’s sister who is the first person in the story.
- She believes it's good for her brother to leave and at the same time, she doesn’t wish him to leave because it would be difficult for their mother.
- In the poem, it is said that "2 sisters had completed school and got married and Mother missed them sometimes and the big brother left" which means that Aloo was the only brother, who was elder than his sisters. Hence, the narrator was one of his sisters who got married.
- It is beneficial because it gives the opinion of Aloo and what he feels and the mother and what she feels which allows the reader to follow along
- In the beginning, a Mother wished for the two youngest kids which were Aloo and his sister to go to school, she had high expectations for them.
- In the middle of the story, Mother discovers that Aloo got accepted to a university and she doesn't want him to leave she makes a commotion about it and with that she made him feel guilty.
- In the end, Aloo and the reader both assume that she would not approve of him leaving but then she does.
