No.Stress is not a material property.Its not force/area ,it's (resisting force)/ area..only is 1D

There is a lot of confusion in this statement as stress and strain are related to Young's modulus also

Suppose I take a 2 bars of different material, same cross sectional area of steel and rubber and try to apply a load which deforms it uniaxially

So now the Young's modulus of both are different but it will not affect stress. If Young's modulus is high then it deforms less

You can imagine like say stress is 100 for same load on 2 cases

Stress= strain * E

2*50 = 100

50* 2 = 100

In case of stronger material E=50, strain is 2

In softer material E=2 and strain is 50

But stress developed for a constant load doesn't change.
