The handle and bristles of a tooth brush should not be made of the same material. As handle require strength and stiffness so it should be made from plastic. Where as bristles are soft and elastic so they should be made from nylon.

The materials that are used in making toothbrushes are mostly plastics, which require energy to be synthesized. The main materials are polypropylene, polyethylene and Nylon. Polypropylene and polyethylene is usually used in making handles. Nylon, specifically nylon 6, is the mainmaterial of bristles.
Synthetic Bristles: Generally used for brushing and cleaning applications involving corrosive acids and alkalis. Longer life bristle materials include: Nylon, Polyethylene, Styrene, "Herox"®, "Tynex"®, Polypropylene, and most other man-made fibers suitable forbristles.
