A Check dam is a technology that has been used to prevent erosion and to conserve water since the ancient times. Many villages and rural regions have check dams that are basically small dams built across drainage systems such as ditches, streams, etc.

HOW THEY WORK

These not only prevent soil erosion by reducing the speed of the water flowing through, but also help in conserving water since the reduced speed of flowing water allows more water to be absorbed by the soil, thus increasing the water table levels.
