Is there a difference between applying a force and doing work? give reason for your answer​

Yes,there is a difference. If there is no displacement but force is applied,the work done would be zero. For example,if you're carrying a luggage and doesn't move it with respect to environment,then the work done would be zero because if though you are applying force but the object(luggage) is not getting displaced.

Applying force means a push or a pull which produces or tend to produce motion, stops or tends to stop motion. Doing work means when certain force is applied on an object and the object tends to move in the direction of the applied force, the work is said to be done.
