yes,Applying force means a push or a pull which produces or tend to produce motion, stops or tends to stop motion. Doing work means when certain force is applied on an object and the object tends to move in the direction of the applied force, the work is said to be done.

Yes, huge difference! For example, if you go to the side of your house and lean on it, however lightly you are leaning you are essentially applying force on the structure of your house. However, as long as you live in the usual type of a house a lot of people in the world do, and not in a house which will collapse as soon as you touch it… your house will not move or in physics terms: there will be no net displacement. If there is no displacement of the object to which you are applying a force- you are doing no work! This is exactly like studying and reading relate to each other: if you are reading something, no matter how many times you read it, if you don’t learn what you are reading- then you are not studying.

Consider a wall , a machine is applying a force of 1000 N on wall and wall did not moved.

Since there is no displacement so work done is zero but forced applied is 1000 N.
