walking have slower speed than running.

Running needs more energy than walking

When running, you are burning more calories, and (because you are speeding up), your lungs (breathing rate) and heart rate increases to accomidate the increase of speed. In walking, your heartbeat and breathing is relatively normal, and would rarely increase (unless you are speed-walking)
