When a country has a national language it functions as a symbol of integrity to the country. When people use the same language they have a sense of belonging and togetherness in it and it also makes the communication between the people easier as everyone can understand what the other person is trying to say.

Having said that, it is very difficult for a vast and such diverse and complex country like India to have one national language. People in different parts of India use different languages and it will be very difficult if only one language is forced on people. Therefore in India, with a change in regions, the languages change, and there is no official national language but, Hindi and English are generally used for official purposes.
