PRIMITIVE SUBSISTENCE FARMING
It includes:
- SHIFTING CULTIVATION- This type of farming is practised in thickly forested areas. A small plot of land is cleared by felling the trees and burning them. The ashes then mixed with the soil and crops like maize. potatoes, yam etc. Main disadvantage of this practise is that the soil loses its fertility. This type of cultivation is also known as SLASH AND BURN AGRICULTURE.
- NOMADIC HERDING- This type of farming is practised in semi arid and arid regions. In this of farming, herdsmen move from place to place with their animals for fodder and water. Sheep, camel, yak etc are generally reared as they provide milk, meat, wool etc.
