The less abundant charge carriers are called minority carriers; in n-type semiconductors they are holes, while in p-type semiconductors they are electrons. In an intrinsicsemiconductor, which does not contain any impurity, theconcentrations of both types ofcarriers are ideally equal.

p and n type materials are NOT positively and negatively charged. An n-type material by itself has mainly negative charge carriers (electrons) which are able to move freely, but it is still neutral because the fixed donor atoms, having donated electrons, are positive.
