Is there any difference between pistil and carpel???

What is A Pistil?

  • Pistil, is a part of flower which is centrally located
  • This is also the part from where the fruits rise and is the reproductive part of a flower.
  • It has many sub divisions
  • It consists of Ovary which later on gives rise to seeds.
  • It is located at external part of flower, and hence we can see it easily.

What is a Carpel?

  • Carpel is also the reproductive part of flower
  • This is located internal parts of a flower
  • Inside Ovary, it is located besides the Ovules
  • It can not be seen in Open eyes.

The connections between the names

  • The only difference is the position of the parts in the flower.
  • Also when many carpel fuse together, it is referred as Pistil
  • They are similar but not exactly the same. Difference in the name shows that they are different
  • Both are reproductive parts of Plants
  • They are Gynoecium .
  • There is not much difference and hence considered same.

Reproduction Via Leaves:-

  • The  leaf of Bryophyllum is referred for Reproduction via leaves

  • In this the flowers are known as "Eyes" of Potato

  • The general Meaning refers to collection of pistils.
