Yes, I have seen a film 'Dil Ek Mandir’ with a similar theme. In this film the late actor Rajendra Kumar plays the role of a doctor Who sacrifices his own life to save the life of a man who was his Rival in love. He cures his rival of Cancer but himself contracts the same disease and dies of it.

there are many films based on novels.....but I have seen Raazi directed by Meghana Gulzar starring Alia Bhatt.....which is based on the novel "Calling Sehmat"....and even Harry Potter....
