Hey Friend,

Inundation canals are the canals which have water in them only when the river is flooded during the rainy season.
Perennial canals are the canals which have water in them throughout the year.

Inundation canals are being converted into perennial canals.
This is done in order to -

1. regulate the flow of water.
2. store water
3. fulfill crop requirement.

Hope it helps!

Inundation canals are formed on seasonal streams or rivers and that is why they are applicable only during rainy seasons. The rest of the year, when they are dry, they are of no use to the farmers.

Perennial canals provide water for irrigation throughout the year and thus the farmers do not require other means of irrigation for the rest of they year, which saves them a whole lot of money.

This is why inundation canals are being changed to perennial canals.
