43) SOLUTION :

Given :

Let the no. of men who worked to complete the piece of work be x,

Statement 1 :

A certain amount of men can finish a piece of work in 50 days.

We already know that,

Total work done = No. of workers x No. of days  (Assuming the work done by all the workers in a day is equal.)

=> From this, we can say that :

Total work = 50 x

Statement 2 :

If there were 7 more men, the work will complete 10 days earlier,.

Total work = (x + 7)(50 - 10)

=> 50x = (x + 7)40

=> 50x = 40x + 280

=> 10x = 280 => x = 28 ,.

Which means 28 workers worked to complete the piece of work.

45) SOLUTION :

Given :

let the number of days he was PRESENT be x.

Statement :

A workman is paid ₹ 150 for each day, he works and is fined ₹ 50 for each day he is absent. In a month of 30 days, he earned ₹ 2100.

=> Which means,

=> 150x - 50 (30 - x) = 2100

=> 150x - 1500 + 50x = 2100

=> 200x - 1500 = 2100

=> 200x = 3600 => x = 18,.

For 18 days he was present, which means (30 - 18) = 12 days he was absent.
