Is there any relationship between cotyledons and roots system? if so?how?
Answers
Answer:
Based on the number of cotyledons there can be two groups among angiosperms:
Monocotyledons:
1. Have one cotyledon
2. They have fibrous roots.
3. They have parallel leave venation.
Dicotyledons:
1. Have two cotyledons.
2. They have taproots.
3. They have reticulated venation.
Based on the number of Cotyledons you can understand which root system it is.
There are 2 types of Cotyledons:-
1) Monocotyledons
2) Dicotyledons
MONOCOTYLEDONS
The small grains/seeds like the grains/seeds in Rice, Wheat and Pulses can't be divided into 2 parts. Hence they are having Monocotyledonous seeds and since it is having Monocotyledonous seeds so it will have Fibrous roots.
DICOTYLEDONS
The big seeds like the seeds of Mango, Apple, Cashews can be divided into 2 parts. Hence they are having Dicotyledonous seeds and since it is having Dicotyledonous seeds so it will have Tap root.
This is the relationship between Cotyledons and Roots.
Hope it helps you dear :)
