2^2=4 which can be written as 2=√4
But when we are given an equation like this x^2+4=0 then x^2=-4 can be written as x=√-4 which is undefined but it is a complex number. Here note that a complex number is written in the form as √-1=i(iota) . Now solve that equation x=√-1 × √4 =√4 × i = 2i which is now defined.
