Answer:

Is Anybody Out There?

Scientists are searching for other planetary systems could have the potential for life. So far, Earth is still the only planet known to harbor life.. As we see on Earth, life can adapt to conditions that human beings would consider very harsh (temperature, radiation, salinity, acidity, aridity, etc). So it may be possible that life started on other worlds and adapted to conditions quite alien to what we are used to.

But till that day let's learn some facts about the galaxies and an exoplanet.

Explanation:

The Milky Way Galaxy is just one of billion of galaxies in the universe.

The Milky Way galaxy is in the Local Group, a neighborhood of about 30 galaxies. Our nearest major neighboring galaxy is called Andromeda.

About two-thirds of the known galaxies are spiral-shaped like our Milky Way galaxy. Most of the rest have elliptical (oval-like) shapes, and a few have unusual shapes like toothpicks or rings.

Hubble Space Telescope observations (pictured) of a tiny patch of space (a fraction of the diameter of the Moon) revealed more than 5,500 galaxies.

There may be a hundred billion galaxies in the Universe. A galaxy is full of stars: Our sun is just one of at least a hundred billion stars in our own Milky Way galaxy.

ESO Discovers Earth-Size Planet in Habitable Zone of Nearest Star

A newly discovered, roughly Earth-sized planet orbiting our nearest neighboring star might be habitable.

The exoplanet is at a distance from its star that allows temperatures mild enough for liquid water to pool on its surface.

The new planet circles Proxima Centauri, the smallest member of a triple star system known to science fiction fans everywhere as Alpha Centauri. Just over 4 light-years away, Proxima is the closest star to Earth, besides our own sun.

While the new planet lies within its star's "habitable zone" -- a distance at which temperatures are right for liquid water -- scientists do not yet know if the planet has an atmosphere.
