A disease is an illness or disorder afflicting living beings, which may be contagious or specific to an individual. Hence it is the responsibility of the individual as well as the society, to treat and prevent recurrence of such diseases.

When an individual has a disease, it is in his interest to treat it and get it cured. When several individuals have the same disease at the same time, the society or government has to step in and implement ways of preventing infection and spread of the disease.

Treating and preventing diseases is a social responsibility but can function only if individuals work towards it collectively.

The society cannot prevent the disease or treat them unless its individuals abide by the norms laid down for the same.

The social responsibility can be met only with collective individual efforts.
