is trhere any change in mass when when a substance changes its state ? explain why

No. It is because of law of conservation of mass which is applicable to physical changes. The volume changes but the mass does not as the no of atoms remain the same so the mass remains same for each atom leading to same mass of the substance. This is not applicable in chemical changes because a new substance is formed. But change of state is a physical change so it remains the same
