There are four major groups of microorganisms-Bacteria,Fungi,Algae and Protozoa.Virus is also considered microscopic but not included in the category of microorganisms because of the following reasons-

1.Virus is a sub-microorganism which has both the characteristics of living and non living organisms.

2.Virus reproduces only inside the cells of living organisms such as plants, animals and human beings.

3.Virus obtains its food from the host cells.

4. It cannot be seen by using a simple microscope however they can be seen by using an electron microscope.
