Is water an oxide or an hydride? why ?

Water is an oxide. The element oxygen is reduced here to oxidize another element hydrogen. Hydrogen oxidation no is oxidized from  0 to 1 in presence of oxygen whose oxidation no is reduced from 0 to -2. Since, oxygen being reduced so Water is an oxide.
