No, work done by gravity is not zero always as it depends on the displacement of the body. Say, if a body displaces in such a fashion that it is perpendicular to the gravitational force only then the work done is zero.
(Work=FScostheta) as theta is the angle between the force of gravity and the displacement which would be 90 if both force and displacement are perpendicular so effectively the work done by gravity becomes zero
