Isiah determined that 5a2 is the GCF of the polynomial
a3 – 25a2b5 – 35b4. Is he correct? Explain.

TO DETERMINE

Isiah determined that  \sf{5 {a}^{2} }

is the GCF of the polynomial

 \sf{ {a}^{3}  - 25 {a}^{2} {b}^{5} - 35 {b}^{4}   }

Is he correct? Explain.

EVALUATION

Here the given polynomial is

 \sf{ {a}^{3}  - 25 {a}^{2} {b}^{5} - 35 {b}^{4}   }

Now

 \sf{ {a}^{3}   = a.a.a  }

 \sf{ 25 {a}^{2} {b}^{5}  = 5.5.a.a.b.b.b.b.b   }

 \sf{ 35 {b}^{4} = 5.7.b.b.b.b   }

Hence GCF = 1

So Isiah was wrong
