Isotopes are the atoms of the same element with same atomic number but different mass

number. Isotopes of same element have same chemical properties due to same number of

electrons. Atomic number of an atom is the number of electrons / protons in it and mass

number is the sum of protons and neutrons

Answer:

Isotopes of any given element all contain the same number of protons, so they have the same atomic number (for example, the atomic number of helium is always 2). Isotopes of a given element contain different numbers of neutrons, therefore, different isotopes have different mass numbers.
