◔English is a big mess of multiple languages coexisting. Because of its crazy collaboration there are many rules that contradict each other and have many many situations where certain rules apply and others don’t.
◖As I teach English abroad now, I’m often asked “Why do you say this and not this?” and the best response I can usually say is “That’s just how we say it.” There are so many rules in English that don’t make sense when you compare them to other rules.
◖For my elementary students who are focusing mainly on little phrases, vocabulary, and sounds, they dislike that letters in the English alphabet have multiple sounds. A has different sounds like in “ape” and “taxi.” It’s also a problem when to use “a” and “a (with an ‘uh’)” pronunciation.
