Tarnishing of silver is due to hydrogen sulphide gas which is released due to pollution.
4Ag+o₂+2H₂S→ 2Ag₂S+2H₂O
so because of pollution which is more nowadays,we see silver articles getting tarnished(black coating).

Answer:
hi mate ,
Ans: Silverware becomes black faster today than it did fifty
years ago because of air pollution. Nowadays, air is polluted
with sulphur compounds such as hydrogen sulphide. Silver
reacts with it to form a black coating of silver sulphide.
hope this helps
