It has been noticed that silverware becomes black faster today it did fifty years ago. What can be the reason for this?

The presence of hydrogen sulphide (HgS) turns silver black. Fifty years ago there was less HgS present in atmosphere than it is now. That is why silver becomes black faster today than it did fifty years ago.
