It is because of the requirement of the origin of replication that a piece of DNA if needed to be propagated during recombinant DNA procedures, requires a vector. The vectors provide the origin of replication.please explain in easy words

ori(origin of replication) -it is a sequence from where replication is start if any piece of DNA is linked with this sequence then it can be replicated in the host cell and this sequence is also responsible for controlling the copy no. of linked DNA

Answer:

Ori is called origin of replication which initiates replication of DNA

Explanation:

  • Ori is a specific sequence found on plasmid DNA which helps in its own replication.
  • During recombinant DNA technology the piece of DNA to be transferred or replicated is transfer to a vector.
  • Vector is a DNA vehicle that carry a specific DNA piece to desired host.
  • This vector already has a origin of replication. When foreign segment is introduced in vector DNA it gets replicated along with vector DNA by ori.
  • Therefore, this ori is an important segment of DNA needed for replication of even foreign DNA piece.
